Relief Society Enrichment Meeting

The Christmas Nail

The Christmas Nail

We had a Relief Society Enrichment meeting tonight.  For those who are not LDS, the Relief Society is a women’s organazation in the Church.  Tonight was a fun “Enrichment” meeting on keeping Christ in our lives during this upcoming holiday season, we had a skit performed for us by some of the sisters to the “Night Before Christmas” poem changed to be about Christ instead of Santa and then we did a really cool craft, the picture you see entitled ” The Christmas Nail”.  I love these meetings.  I miss the spiritual uplift I get from our Relief Society meeting on Sundays (it’s a class similar to Sunday School, which we also have) as I teach in Primary (children’s classes) during that time, but the children are fun too, and I get my spiritual uplift from Sacrament meeting and preparing the lessons for Primary. 🙂

With warmer temps coming this week end I plan on taking advantage of the wonderful 60’s while I can before our negative temps arrive in six weeks or so.  Hope you all have a wonderful week end as well.  🙂

Nauvoo

Nauvoo TempleI went with some friends yesterday to the Nauvoo Temple, in Nauvoo, IL.  It is as amazingly beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside.  It has a spectacular spiral staircase in one of the corners that seems to go on forever, the other 3 corners have a square type staircase that is also beautiful.  Spirial staircases are not allowed anymore for safety reasons, but they were able to get special permission to keep the one.  The peace inside was also amazing.  I’m so glad I was able to go.

The picture is from the Temple website, I’m sorry that I forgot to take my camera to get a my own picture of the outside of the Temple and the Temple grounds which were very beautiful as well.

I saw alot of sheep on the way to and from the Temple :), all I could think about when I saw them was spinning some of their fleece ;P.  On the way home we stoped in Kalona, IA at the Stringtown Country Store, which is run by the Amish.  They sell bulk spices and other things.  It was interesting and fun and I brought some often used spices home with me.  I was also able to find the freeze dried yeast that I like to bake with so much.  All in all it was a very good day.  I also found an email waiting for me when I got home, from the classmates site that I had just rejoined, from a long lost friend that I had been praying to find, I was so happy to hear from her.

I may not have much in the eyes of some of the world, no fancy home or car, no expensive clothes, jewlery or things, but I feel very blessed and very happy with what I have, because I see others with less.  I have a job, for the time being, that supports me, a safe place to lay my head at night, food on my table and an older vehicle, that tho it needs a lot of work, is blessed to run and gets me safely to church, work, home and errands,  I also have things to do and things to give to others, what more could I want?

Christmas Cactus

Early blooms

Early blooms

Last year in mid November came the first blossoms I had on the Christmas cactus that had been given to me for Christmas the year before.

This year, because of the unusually cool Summer and early Fall temps, my Christmas cactus already has buds on it and it’s only the start of October.  Hmmmmm.  Wonder if that is just the difference in the cooler temps here for fall vs TN last year.  With winter coming soon, I sure miss TN about now :P.  I’ve already had to bring my plants in from my balcony due to the lower temps at night, sigh.

I’m still looking for that pattern that screams at me, KNIT ME, KNIT ME, for the alpaca shawl.  In the mean time I like to hold the skein of yarn and feel it’s softness.  It’s time to start spinning the 2nd skein of yarn :).

Yesterday and today I’ve been able to listen to General Conference on the BYU station of cable TV.  It’s been great and very uplifting, I love General Conference time in the spring and fall every year.
