Accident, Snow and Time Change

Well a deer and I had an argument over who should have right of way on the road, tho he neglected to tell me he had an issue with it as he made his point. It was a road with fields and lots of open area and it was night (on my way home from a church meeting) and this was my first experience with a deer’s right to the road. I saw a brown blur out of the corner of my left eye and thought, is that a dog, “boom” no it was a deer. From the damage it looks like he may have been trying to stop and hit me sideways. He didn’t fall over the hood or windshield so they were undamaged, I pulled over to see the damage and didn’t see the deer on the road, hope he’s ok. I felt like I had received a tender mercy from the Lord because the deer could have been in front of me and I’d have hit him head on, or hitting and damaging my door breaking my window on me, and all the damage those two places would have done. Tho’ it’s a bit pricey to fix for body work and the guy who did the estimate said it was safe to drive as it was body damage wise, and I was not injured. I took my car in to my mechanic for an oil change and had them look it over for other things that might have been damaged other than the driver’s front wheel well. They put it up on the lift and said they did not see any undercarriage damage, they didn’t see any leaks and the level of the fluids of my car were all ok. My car is 15 years old and I did not have full coverage because at it’s age they would probably just have totaled it and the money I would have received from the insurance would not replace it with a car as good, as it only has 50K miles on it. So I’ll pay the little over 3K to have it fixed and be glad I still have a good and safe car, but I will be on the look out for those dang deer!

We did have snow last Wed (about 2 inches) and snow yesterday (about 1 inch). But I forgot to load them in my pictures so no pictures of that today. But we are supposed to be in the 60’s this next week before it gets cold again!!!

Ok just a little vent about the time change. From the picture I’m sure you know where I stand. I know people are excited for that extra hour of light right now, but there are consequences when we change things that the Lord set up when he created the world and time. Changing time back and forth is harder on you as you get older and the studies show that older people tend to have more heart attacks when this happens every year. Also now children will be walking to school when it’s dark, just before light. Yes there are children who live a mile or two away from school (1 mile for elementary and 2 miles for high school) who’s parents work and can’t drive them and they have to walk to school. Again I know some people are very excited for an extra hour of daylight in the early spring because (especially in the midwest and places north) it gets dark in the winter around Christmas around 5pm but now in March it’s 6:20 so see it’s already getting lighter after work. So just be patient for a few months and let the light get here normally and naturally so others will be safe. The federal government probably won’t change it, even tho they changed it to begin with. So I will contact my state congress to put a bug in their ear to change it fully back to standard time for my state anyway.

Finished Spin of Alpaca Yarn and Rant

I started this spin last year and had one bobbin done, and then I started the 2nd bobbin and then didn’t spin anymore on this wheel for months. I finished the 2nd bobbin this last Saturday at my son’s and his spouse’s farm because they were having an Alpaca Farm Days and I go on Saturday and Sunday because they have their skirting table set up and their drum carder and then I spin to show those who come the process for processing fiber from shearing to yarn. I plied it on Sunday and when I got home I wound it off the bobbin on my niddy noddy (tool used to wind the long skeins of yarn) and presto a skein of yarn. It is only 124 yards because the bobbins on the Rick Reeves wheels are made a little different and one side is tall and one side is short so you can only get some much plied yarn on it without it falling off the bobbin as you ply, wonder if they have a bulky flyer and bobbin (good luck finding one, his wheels aren’t made anymore :(.) It is a dk weight yarn and soft. This turned out balanced and no twisting as I held the the long skein from the top. I’m Impressed with myself :). Not sure what I can make with only 124 yards but I’ll do some digging and see if it would make a pair fingerless mitts. Now to go back to spinning the Pop Rox’s yarn. 🙂

Ok, now for a little rant (well it’s not so little :P). When I went to the Alpaca Farm days at my son’s alpaca farm on Saturday (this is a once a year activity on Saturday and Sunday) to spin for my son’s event, it was busy but not overwhelmingly so and everyone that came was nice and their children all had fun feeding the alpaca and chickens and seeing how the shorn fleeces are processed and watching me spin, and the kids had fun winding yarn on my son’s sock machine, children love doing things like that. My son’s mother-in-law made some apple bread and brought hot apple cider. All of this including the apple bread, which she had in slices, and apple cider is provided free and when the food ran out no one complained, everyone seemed to have a good time. Sunday was different, there are always a few people who can make a good time unpleasant because nothing is ever enough. Mind you this is all free, he doesn’t charge a fee to enter the farm and they get to feed the alpaca and chickens and the little snack my son’s mother-in-law brings for no charge. All he hopes for is that people will visit his farm store on the way out and buy some yarn or a trinket from their farm store after their visit, after all it goes towards running the farm and feeding the animals, vet bills, etc and hopefully some profit, if this was a hobby farm he’d only have a couple of alpaca but he has about 24, this is his farm, his business. Sunday, which is only 4 hrs compared to the 6 hrs on Saturday, was a lot busier than Saturday and people were standing in line to be able to go in the pasture with the alpacas (having too many people in the pasture stresses the animals out and they are the most important thing). One woman got upset when the bread and apple cider ran out. I mean honestly it’s free, we don’t have to provide it at all, it is just a bonus from a mother-in-law. Maners are severely lacking in some people. And then to add insult to injury, now remember this was only open 4 hrs and people are generally only there between 1/2 to 1 hr, a woman complained because my son did not have a porta potty there, she told him legally he had to have one for the event, he is going to check into that and if he does for his once a year activity, she just made this whole thing no longer free if he has to pay for a porta potty, for one complaining person, he would have to charge admission to be able to pay for it and she was demanding to use his personal house restroom, excuse me? Can she or her family member not just use the restroom at their home before coming out to the farm, we’re only talking about an hr here? Since it might not be a free event anymore I wonder if she would want to come anymore? My son also decided that his mother-in-law, if she still wanted to make the apple bread, will now need to make little loaves and sell them so no one will complain when they run out of apple bread. That will probably make that woman, who complained about those treats running out, upset too, you can’t win with them. Those really losing, are the people who never complain and just come and enjoy the experience who might be having to pay admission to come do this now. It just takes one person to ruin it for everyone else, like I said, there’s always that one. It took me a couple of days to figure out how to say this a little more tactfully. I think I did.

UPDATE: My son called and they told him, he is not required to provide a porta potty for his small event, he is a farm on the outskirts of town.

Starting Another Chemo Hat

Chemo Cap with Curls

I did get the pattern from the Designer, she was nice enough to put it back up on Raverly.  It’s called Chemo Cap in Splash & Merino 5 there is a link on the raverly page to an archive with the pattern.  I plan on doing the hat including the curls in the black with red (in the same kind of yarn I used in my last chemo hat) to match my friends shawl.  I hope it turns out like the picture in my head :P.  Both yarns, Yarn Bee Sunggle Up in the black and Yarn Bee Cloud 9 in the garnet, are very soft and when putting them together they are extremely soft, makes you want to pet all the fiber off of it :D.

I’ll post a picture after I get it started or finished, which ever I can fit in first :P.

A one sentence rant today.  We are not Easter Worshipers, we are Christians, we celebrate Easter, we worship our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Warning for Those Who Might Be Easily Offended – My Thoughts on My Blog

I stand for my Flag and the National Anthem

I was raised by an Air Force father who served for 21 years, and served in two wars.  I love my country, it’s flag and the National Anthem.

I’m disappointed, in those in football, who chose to protest the American Flag and our National Anthem on the football field.  The very country who has given them the opportunity to become millionaires.  Take the protest to the political arena where it might actually do some good, you are turning people against what you claim you are supporting, protesting your country doesn’t belong in a game.

Many Americans buy tickets and other football memorabilia to support their teams, however you will probably notice that attendance is down because it is NOT what most of your fans came for.  They came to watch you perform at football not to dis their country.  If they wanted political banter they would go to something political.   They attend to get away from reality for a short while because our country has become so politically correct, tumultuous and divided, it was one thing where the fans of a football team could come together on, their team.   The football arena has chosen to become political which makes them divisive and I have chosen to turn the channel now on something else besides football until they can get back to what they do best, entertaining us without their political agenda.

Seems my team, the Cowboys, can’t decide if they want to support those who are dissing their flag and anthem or stand for the flag and anthem so they did both, a right down the middle stance.  What was it Mr Miyagi in Karate Kid said? Oh yeah, “Walk on road,  Walk left side, safe. Walk right side, safe. Walk middle, sooner or later, get squish just like grape.”   Support them off the field guys, off the field your time is your own and can do what you want and I will support your right to do it, however when you are on the field, just play ball, please, we all need some down time to just enjoy the sport.

UGH! Daylight Savings Time Again

Old Indian Wisdom

I’m not happy that this is here again.  You’d think the government would take the hint since I keep posting about this, but I guess they just don’t listen :P.  I want my hour back, NOW!!  😛

Only good thing about this time of year is it’s SPRING!!!  Altho’ you might not know it since we are suppose to get about 6″ of snow tonight and tomorrow.   Sigh, but that is life in the mid-west!

I am working on the shawl, and am getting close to starting the lace section, I’ll try to get a picture of it in the next day or two and post it.  It’s a really nice pattern. 🙂

Wasn’t it just Day Light Savings Time? SPRING!!

Old Indian Wisdom (click on picture to read words)

I notice the older I get the faster things come up.  Remember when you were young and it took forever for your birthday or summer to get here?  Now they just whiz by at an alarming rate, that seems to be one of the unfortunate things that happen as we get older and gain wisdom (well I hope I have accrued some wisdom anyway :P.)  At any rate, I used this Old Indian bit of wisdom again because (with just a hint of sarcasm) obviously the federal government didn’t pay attention last year when I used it on my blog and day light savings time is here again this year.  sigh.

Well, WOOT WOOT, my car has been repaired and is in my garage!!!  However (don’t you just know there is always a however?)  my foot isn’t healed sufficiently yet to drive it.  I drove it home from the mechanics house about 20 mins away and my left ankle is letting me know about it (it’s a manual with a clutch and not an automatic transmission).  So it will be a couple more weeks before I can drive it because I went back to the Dr yesterday, (my supervisor thought my foot should be healed by now and suggested I go back to the Dr), and she said “nope, as long as you are using that ankle the ligaments you tore will be very slow to heal”.  She wanted to put an air cast on it because she knows I am single and self supportive and staying totally off of it is not an option, but they didn’t have one and I have to wait until I get paid on Tuesday to afford it.  But I want it to heal so I can drive and walk and all that other stuff that I haven’t been able to do since the middle of Jan when I fell down the stairs, so on Tuesday when I get paid, I will go get one and use it (the pharmacy is only a few blocks from my house).  She did put a splint type of brace on it which she said would be better than the soft support one that I was using, and she put me on a high dose of ibuprofen every 6 hrs for a full week to help with the inflammation.  So I’m crossing my fingers that in 2 or 3 weeks I will be back to more normal :).

After 4 trips to the frog pond, I have finally figured out my pattern for the new comfort shawl I am making.  When I get a bit more done on it so that you can see the pattern I will post a picture of it.  When I am completely done I will post  a link to the original daisy shawl pattern and my version of a rectangular shawl pattern for it along with the picture of the finished shawl :).  I’m torn right now between wanting to spin and wanting to knit, but the knitting is winning out at the moment.  Perhaps later this week when I need a break from the shawl, I will pay more attention to the “come hither” from my spinning wheel.

I did see the geese flocking back a week ago last Thursday (March 3rd) and all the wonderful red-breasted Robins!!  The female Robins should be showing up in the next week or so – they are usually about 2 weeks behind the males so the males can set up their territories to court the females and entice them to their carefully picked out and fought for spots.  AHHH, SPRING IS IN THE AIR!  Farewell Old Man Winter!! 🙂

Happy TEA Party Day

My son has his web hosting site up and running and I’m switching over so this is my first post on his hosting site.  He’s decided to go with Word Press for the blogging part.  It’s a lot different than what I was use to at Yahoo, but I’m learning it.  If you are interested in changing hosting servers, you can contact my son, I have a link to his website in my blog roll.  I like the fact that if I have any problems, I don’t have to be connected to an out of the country service rep (that has a hard time with American slang or phrasing), I can just go over to his house and yell at him :P.  JUST KIDDING SON!!!

My unpacking is coming along and I’m just waiting for the back ground check to come in, should be today or tomorrow, so that I can start working at the bank.  Hopefully this position will turn out to be a temp to hire job and not just a long term temp job, because it pays well and I enjoyed working with the mortgage title company, this will be a bit different but I’m excited about it anyway :).

Oh yeah, happy TEA Party Day!!!  TEA = Taxed Enough Already!
