Snow Day!! 11-28-2025

We are having a snow storm, first big snow of the winter, and boy is it!! I woke up at 3:30 AM to get a shot of the snow and there was a deer there, so I captured that in my picture, so cute. The next picture is the storm alert, so we have about 10 to 12 more hrs to go of this snow storm, at least the wind isn’t terrible. The last picture I took a few hrs ago of the snowfall so far. I’d love snow more if it was warm :P. This storm is across many states, so if any of you out there are in this storm take care and stay warm. 🙂

*Update* as of 10:30pm we have 12 inches of snow, some towns got 14 inches. All said and done we ended up with about 14 inches. Is it spring yet?

SNOW!! and Some Spinning

The snow pictures are in order, last night about 2 hrs after the snow started, it wasn’t sticking to the road yet *(actually I think this is the start of the last snow we had, but they look about the same so I mixed them up, and now I can’t find the picture I took lol, so oops). Then this morning just before sun up, and last tonight after sun down.  It snowed for about 24 hrs and we got about 7 inches tho at the airport they measured 13 inches, whoa. I’d say our Christmas snow arrived a little late :P. More snow storms coming this week but not sure how much snow they will bring, I’m sure they will add to the pile as our temps are going down :P. This one was a very big storm.

The last picture is the Pop Rox I am spinning. Had some eye surgery a few weeks ago and I go back to the doctor later this month for new glasses so I can see better.  All in all it was worth it. I can see the color on the roving and yarn so much better! I’m about 2/3rds done with this bobbin, then one more to spin before I ply. Trying to figure out in the mean time if I want to just ply regular or try the chain ply again so the colors stay together. I need to figure it out before I finish this single because if I chain ply I will just continue to spin on this bobbin until it’s full.

Hope everyone is safe and warm.

Forgot the cutest one! This is Everest from my son’s alpaca farm, he was out in the snow today and decided to come in the barn for a bite or two. They come in and out of the barn as they wish to get out of the wind or other weather. Note that the snow doesn’t melt on him, his fiber is very dense and water resistant. They are lovers of the cold, me? not so much!

Our 2nd Snow of Winter 2023-2024

This was what I woke up to this on Friday Morning. It snowed all day Thursday and into the night but most of it melted off because we had been warmer days before and it didn’t stick to the roads, but we managed to keep about 1/4 an inch on the ground. We still have some on the ground but not even enough now to cover the grass. Enjoy the snow this winter if you usually get snow, suppose to be a warmer winter with the El Niño this year :).

Still More Snow! Working on a Project

More snow mid Feb 2019

Yes more snow!  It’s been snowing since sometime last night and they say will continue until sometime tonight.  We are expected to get between 4 to 6 inches.  I left this picture a little bigger than normal, so you could see the snow flakes, I could have made the picture bigger but you can still see all the white dots in the picture :).  I can’t believe I actually got a picture of the snow falling!  But, you know there is always a but, it’s because they are huge flakes :P.  I took this a littler earlier around 1 pm.  Also it looks like more snow this coming week and next Sunday, sigh.

I am working on a project with the yarn I spun from the rolags, but won’t comment on it yet.  When it’s done and safely in the mail, I will post a picture.

Hope if anyone else is getting snow from this rather large storm, that you are safe and warm :).

It’s a Mystery!! And Snow and a Polypay Fleece :)

lots of snow

Ok I have been very lax on keeping up with stuff going on and I’m going to start with the first thing which was the snow, so here goes.  Yes that last winter storm a few weeks ago gave us a foot of snow.  Pretty coming down but such a mess to drive in for a while.  It melted off the roads and a little on the ground when we had a few days of nice warm up temps in the 20’s and a couple of days in the 30’s,  woot woot.  But it’s been cold again with -temps and today is snowing again.  They say we will get 3 to 6 inches by midnight.  sigh, is it Spring yet?  It is suppose to be back in the teens and 20’s next week, looking forward to that for sure.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

2nd thing that has happened, I went to visit my friend who raises sheep, and she gave me another fleece, how cool is that?  Polypay is a fine fleece and next to the skin soft.  When it warms up a bit, and I can take it outside and be comfortable, I will skirt it and get it ready to send to the fibermill in MO to turn into roving to spin, will probably be a month or so before that happens 🙂  How blessed can a girl be :).

Mysterious deliver of this beautiful DMC Merino Woolly yarn

Last thing I wanted to talk about is the Mystery.  I have not ordered any yarn online lately, last thing was last year,  some alpaca for a scarf I was knitting for a friend.  But mysteriously this package with a pattern kit of 11 skeins of DMC Merino wool, called Woolly, and the pattern for two color stranded pillows, arrived at my door step this morning from the DMC company.  I’m like “what?”  I didn’t order anything and I wondered if I maybe won something from a contest, but I didn’t remember entering anything like that.  There was no bill of laden or a congratulations you won something, just the yarn and the pattern wrapped in a beautiful pink paper with the DMC sticker and bubble wrap.  I’m the curious type so I called the DMC company to see if they can figure out why I received this package, I didn’t want to be billed for something I didn’t order.   She checked for a bit while I was on the line with her, but couldn’t figure it out so I gave her the tracking number to see if that would  help, she was going to call me back with information.  I haven’t heard yet.  I will let you know if I hear anything.  I’m VERY curious about this. 😛   The yarn is beautiful and very soft and looks to be a sport weight (it comes in a 50 gram ball with 136 yards per ball and  it’s superwash!!.  I’m thinking it would make wonderful hats and scarves for future projects  :).

*UPDATE*   She called me back and offered to give me a shipping label to return it, but I told her I wasn’t going to send it back until I found out why it came, incase a friend had ordered it and had it sent to me, that would be like buying something and giving it back with no refund.  She had thought maybe they had sent it by error, but I told her since they didnt find me in their system (because I have never ordered on line from their company) that they would not have my name and shipping address in their system and could not have accidentally shipped it to me.  She said she would keep checking.  Anyone want to own up to sending it to me?  😛

Snow is here 2013

November 11th – First Snow

.

Well, we had our first snow, was only ground cover and didn’t stick to the streets as you can see in the picture on the left, on November 11th.  We had a similar ground cover snow the next week.  I woke up this morning to some real snow, not alot of snow (about 1/2 to 1 inch) but it did cover the ground and the street.  The city has it’s snow plows out and the stores are plowing parking lots.   Ok the first few snows are all right, pretty, etc, etc, etc.  HOWEVER, it’s cold and the snow doesn’t stay a pretty pristine white.  It gets grey and dirty and that is what the winter will look like alot as the winter drags on. sigh.  Is it Spring yet?

Newer Car!!!

Yep, I got a newer car (9 years younger than my little red putt putt).  A friend of mine (the one I walk with on Monday and Thursday evenings) and her husband got new cars and had this one sitting arournd.  They told me they would like to give it to me, but I’m stubborn and proud and told them I would take it if they would let me pay something for it.  Wasn’t much that I had to give them but it was something and now I have a newer car that I don’t have to worry about needing fixed all the time. 🙂  It has the key device  that you can unlock it from a distance and it has power windows and a radio that works :), I feel like I’ve moved up in the world, lol.  It drives smoothly and I have to say the color is one of my favorites :).  What a blessing my friend is.

I’ve been teaching in Primary for about 4 1/2 years in my ward.  I got a new calling on Sunday, Compassonate Service Co-ordinator.  I’ve served in many positions in my church but have never filled this calling before.  I know a little about what to do, not alot, I know it’s not one that most people covet :P, but I like people and I like helping, so I’m hoping I will be more of a blessing to others in this calling than a burden as I learn.

Another Storm & More Snow

Late Feb Snow Storm

.This is what we got on that snow storm last Thursday.  They had predicted up to 8 inches of snow.  We got about 4 inches.  I’m not really complaining, I’m not really a snow person, but I know we need the moisture and the weatherman said it takes about 12″ of snow to make 1 inch of rain.

More snow is suppose to be on it’s way this coming week.  We will see what it brings.  Hope you all stay warm and safe!!

Our First Real Snow for Winter 2011/2012

First real snow of 2011-2012

First real snow of 2011-2012

..

Well on the left was what I woke up to on Thursday morning.  A bit of a difference from the dusting of snow we’d had up to this point.  It snowed all day Thursday and the 2nd picture is what I took this morning to show the difference from the dusting we had before.  Glad my car is out of commision as it were and I dont have to drive in this.  I am taking the bus to work and home again.  Not fun standing out there waiting for the bus in this weather, but so much nicer not to have to drive in it ;).  Did I mention that I’m not really a winter person? 😛

Merry Christmas 2010

Christmas Eve Snow

.

This is what I woke up to Friday morning, so I got a picture of it on my way out to go to work.  It snowed all day and we ended up with about 7 inches of snow.  Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas  :).

Merry Christmas

1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

2 (and this taxing was the first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, unto Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David)

5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger: because there was no room for them in the inn.

8 And there were in the same country sheperds abiding in the filed, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host prasing God, and saying,

14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.  (St Luke 1:1-14)

Winter Weather & Thor

Christmas Tree 2010

.I put my tree up the first week-end after Thanksgiving.  It’s a lovely little fiber optic tree that I bought from someone at work about 4 years ago.  I love the color changes and that it’s small enough to fit in my apartment.  Brings back memories of my mom’s first favorite tree.  It was one of those silver aluminum trees that had the color wheel that you put close to it, and the sliver aluminum branches would pick up the changing colors.  Later in her life,  she had a beautifully flocked artificial tree that looked as real as any I’ve ever seen, and the skirt was a beautiful alpaca fleece, it even looked soft in the pictures.

Evening of Snow Storm

Next Morning

Well, we had a blizzard yesterday evening and through the night.  However because the snow was heavy and wet it didn’t blow around in the up to 40 mile an hour winds, so we were spared that part of what most people experience in a blizzard.  This was our second snow of the season and the snows are coming late this year, tho I’m not complaining, we will have plenty yet to come.  We didn’t get very much, certainly not as much as those north of us.

.

Can I come out now?

.

Thor is doing well and is such a joy in my life.  He has been such a blessing to me.  He only expects food, water and time with me.  Well, and an occasional treat that I can’t resist giving to him.  He’s getting older, he will be 5 next spring which is getting old for a ferret.  I’m blessed that he has been and continues to be healthy, but I know the time will come when his health fails, then he will need me to be a good mom taking care of all his medical needs, which I will do with as much love as he has given me.

I’m still knitting on the comfort shawl, it’s about 3/4’s finished now.  I’m also finding time to work on spinning the cria fiber, I love the softness of it as I spin it.  I’ve found that working on the comfort shawl for someone else who lost a child and spinning that wonderfully soft fiber has been comforting to me this Christmas season as I find my self missing my youngest son so much.
