I made another Hearts Knot Bag.  This one I have put in my Etsy Shop, I might have to  buy some more of this fabric and make one for myself because  I think the fabric is so beautiful :).

The last two weeks have been sooooo hectic, I’m hoping after this week end that my life might get back to some kind of normalcy.  Time will tell.

I’m working on a hat from the polypay yarn for my friend and it’s almost finished, I will post a picture when it’s done.  I will have her son try it on before I do the other one so I know if the size was correct for the other one I need to knit for her husband.

My computer bit the dust and for a about 1 1/2 weeks I had to use my daughters computer to get online for my email and Etsy shop. My dad was kind enough to get me another lap top.  Hard to have an online business and not have a way to be on line :P.  Dad’s are wonderful :).

This is my Star Wars medium size bag.  I love Star Wars and since they are getting ready to have a new Star Wars movie come out in December I have access to fabrics with Star Wars designs :).  I may get one more Star Wars design fabric.

I have been working on other bags as well, pictures posted below.  They are embroidered instead of using the patterned fabrics I have been using.  It’s interesting deciding on the embroidery designs for them.   I chose “I Love Knitting with Handspun” and  “Obsessed Knitter” for these two,  I will be make more of the embroidery bags.

The hurricane that went through Mexico and Texas sure gave us some really rainy, windy weather Tuesday and Wednesday in the midwest.  Tuesday was down pours most of the day, today was light rain most of the day but it seems to have subsided now.  Even tho the temps were in the 40’s and that is not really cold for here, that cold/wet wind seemed bone chilling.  Just a not so gentle reminder that winter is on the way :(.

Spinning at the Park 2015 – Again

Alpaca - 5-15

Alpaca – 5-15

Yes, I did get out to the park yesterday afternoon to spin again, but oops once again I forgot my camera, sigh :(.  So I took this picture at my house after getting back, sorry.  It was a beautiful day at the park, there was some kind of a birthday party going on, but I didn’t set up to spin in that area.  Was a little bit breezy but all in all a beautiful day.

I’m almost done with this spool of singles, so I will be starting my 2nd spool soon in anticipation of plying and having yarn for a nice hat for my dad for his birthday :).

We have had a ton of rain this year (I’m sure California is wishing they had some of it, and to be honest, if I could send some of it down there I would :P).  It makes everything green and beautiful, but I would love to have a few more sunny dry days :).

BRRRRRR

Snow Woman!

Snow Woman!

Is this not so cute?  My sister made this for me for Christmas.  She promised to put the instructions up on her blog Eat It Anyway.  I’ll keep bugging her until she does cos’ I want to make a pair (snowman and snowwoman) lol.  She has some awesome things under Share It on her blog.    If you haven’t visited her site I would suggest it, she’s very crafty (in a good way :P).

For those of you following the weather here in IA, yes we are VERY cold.  It is -3F outside and if that were all it wouldn’t be too bad but with the wind chill it is about -28F, brrrrr.  It will only continue to get colder as the day goes on.  They closed the schools here today because of the wind chill.  It will be colder tonight at -17F ambient temp so I imagine the wind chill will be in the -30’s to -40’s depending on the wind.  I’m inside where I am safe and warm :).   On a positive note, it will be up to 17 on Saturday  and maybe the low 20’s on Sunday :).

No matter where you live, stay warm today :).

Raggedy Ann

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My sister called today and among our regular chit chat we started talking about the Raggedy Ann dolls my mom and grandmother made for us.  Ah the memories, I told her the one I have was one that our grandmother had made for me one year when she asked me what I would like for Christmas and I told her that I would like her to make me a Raggedy Ann doll.  She had made me one when I was much younger and of course it went the way of all things that little kids have, sigh.  I am so glad she agreed to make me another one.  She passed away in 1988 and it is so nice to have something that she made me.  I don’t have one that my mom made, but my sister has one that mom made her.  The difference is the one my mom made had embroidered a little heart on it with the words I love you in the heart.  My grandmother sewed well but I don’t think it was her favorite thing to do.  My mom sewed but it wasn’t her favorite thing to do when she was young because she was very into sports and band in high school so she learned her sewing skills after getting married, when it was more fun :P.

I’m working on a sympathy shawl until I get the yarn I need for the Little Lace Daisy Scarf I’ll be making for my friend’s wife.  The scarf won’t take very long then I will get back to the sympathy shawl.

Comfort Shawl Done

Comfort Shawl 10-14

Comfort Shawl 10-14

Updating from my last post.  I have finished the comfort shawl and have given it to the friend that lost her babies.  Comfort shawls are always  nice because it helps let the receiver know that someone is thinking about them and that they don’t have to be alone in the grieving process.  You can’t see the colors really well (not sure if it’s my camera or my lack of photography skills :P) but it has red, orange and a turquoise color in it. I have also finished knitting the scarf I was working on but will post a picture along with the pattern later this week, it’s blocking at the moment and I wanted to get a nice picture of it to post with the pattern.  Now I can work on finishing the sweater I started for the special little someone, who is still reminding me it’s getting cold and she needs it, lol.

Annual Soup Cook-off 3rd Place Winner

Annual Soup Cook-off 3rd Place Winner

Well to the right you see a picture of an award I won last night at the Annual Soup Cook-off at my church.   It’s in conjunction with a ward get together and “trunk or treat” for the kids.  We had a nice array of soups to taste.  There were 25 brought in and they were all so yummy.  I didn’t bring mine in with any intention of winning anything and actually kinda winged it with a last min addition to my taco soup.  I usually add canned green chilies (mild) to my soup but I forgot to get them, so to add some zing I added a dry packet of Guacamole to it.  It added a wonderful little bit of spicy flavor.  The judges must have thought so to because I won 3rd place.  The little awards they gave us were very cute and I was so surprised when they called the number on my crockpot (they put numbers on a bit of tape on all the soups as we brought them in and put them on the tables.)  The 1st place was a long wooden spoon painted gold, the 2nd place was a little shorter painted silver and the 3rd was a short spoon painted bronze. HAHA,   very cute, someone went to a lot of work to prepare them for us :).

Melissa Gilbert Promoting Her New Cookbook!!!

Melissa Gilbert - New Cookbook

Melissa Gilbert – New Cookbook

I talked my daughter into giving me an early Birthday present.  She took me to see Melissa Gilbert (Laura of Little House on the Prairie) who was in town, yesterday, to promote her newest endeavor, a cookbook.  The cookbook is wonderful and as a bonus it has many photos of behind the scenes things and stories of the Little House TV series, and in the book she also answered questions that have been asked regarding the series.  All in all a very fun cookbook, and she was very entertaining.  She talked for a little over an hour, including letting the audience ask her questions.  At the end, she signed the all cookbooks.  The audience was so large that they ran out and not everyone was able to buy one, they brought 100 books to sell at the promotion – they hadn’t expected quite so many people,  I had told my daughter we needed to get there at least an hour early, so glad we did :).  Yesterday was the 1st day of it’s release, so my daughter and I got one of the first 100 books sold on the first day of it’s release.   It was a very fun day!! 🙂  She is a delightful person :).

I am working on 4 knitted items, in this order – a comfort shawl for a friend who had her twins too early and they didn’t live (it’s close to being done), the scarf from the handspun from a friends sheep’s fleece, finishing the sweater I promised a very special little one, and a pair of prairie boots I promised another special person. 🙂  Pictures will be provided when I am done with each. 🙂

Spring! & Spinning at the Park

Blueberry Bush

Blueberry Bush

I have been going to put a little garden on my patio for several years now.  Last year I finally broke down and bought 2 large pots and 3 small rectangular potting boxes (you can see part of them in the picture on the left)  and didn’t get the soil for planting, lol.  This year I bought the soil and mulch and started, inside, two squash plants (a zucchini and a yellow squash).  They are officially growing and planted out in the pots.  For Mother’s Day I received a potted blueberry bush – which I had wanted for a couple of years but it wasn’t in my budget, it is shown in the picture at the left.  I have planted spinach in the rectangular boxes and am very excited about having some fresh veggies this summer ;).

I forgot to take my camera out today when I went to the park to spin but you can see the park here from another year.  I try to get out to the park once or twice in the spring to spin.   After being cooped up inside most of the winter, it was wonderful spinning in the shade of the lovely large trees and  was beautiful and with all the green grass and the leaves on the trees, and the temperature was absolutely perfect, such a wonderful peaceful thing to do. 🙂

Winter 2012 – 2013

1st real snow 2012 – 2103

,Well we did get snow this winter, I’ve just not been real good about noting a lot of things.  We got this snow just before Christmas when everyone was getting a lot of snow dumped on them.  The lower part of our state got about 18 inches but we only got about 4 to 6 inches, but it was a very heavy wet snow.  I’m not complaining, but I know we needed it for the farmers who desperately need the moisture.  After Christmas we warmed up and the snow melted (this would be our normal mid winter thaw), and we got some rain which was needed and I like better than snow and ice :P.  We had a little bit of snow today but it was only a dusting of dry snow.  The thaw is over (dang) and winter is back with it’s below zero temps.  Tonight is suppose to be -3 and with wind chill -21,  brrrr.  Tomrrow should be a little warmer with a temp of 5 above, lol, but tomorrow night is saying minus 4 with wind chill around -22.   Sigh  Glad I don’t have to go anywhere tomorrow night or Tuesday. 🙂  Snow is in our forecast for this coming Thursday.

I didn’t get pictures of my Christmas cactus this year, it did bloom but was very late blooming this year.  I’ll try to be better next blooming season.  I need to re-pot it again this year.  When I buy the pot this spring (in April), I will also get a couple of large pots (like barrel size) because I am determined to get my balcony garden going this year.  Not sure how well it will do as I don’t get quite enough sun, but I’m going to try anyway :).  I miss having fresh yellow squash and it’s soooo expensive at the grocery store.

I caught a cold in October, about mid month.  It was a really bad chest cold that was going around (everyone was complaining about it that caught it), I was sick for 3 weeks and finally went to the Dr who thought it might be going into walking pneumonia, and so I took anti-biotics and got better.  Was just getting over that cold and caught a head cold, arrrggg.  5 days into that cold I caught another head cold, beyond arrrggg.  I am just now getting rid of the last of the coughing and was finally able to get my flu shot.  This has been a really not fun winter.  Because I’ve been sick and Thor was sick I didn’t get much done on my knitting or spinning.  The little ones that were expecting sweaters have been very patient but are telling me they seriously need them now, lol.  I have about 1/2 of a spool of the hand spun done and need to get busy on that so I can make the two scarves I promised.  I’ll get there I promise.  So I’m hoping for a better year, wishing all of you a better year as well (I think we could all use one).

Happy Halloween

I used this for several reasons:

1st – for those who have suffered much loss due to the recent storm that hit our eastern coast and inland areas.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.

2nd – the terrorist attack on our embassy in Libya.  My thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost their loved ones.

3rd – have to apologize for not blogging this month until now.  I caught a terrible cold right after my birthday (yes I had another one of those :P) and was sick for 2 weeks, barely getting up to do anything.  At the end of that 2nd week (still have the cold) I started with a not fun sinus infection.  That at least is better now, just the after effects of the cold which always destroys my voice for anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months. 😦  Since I love music so much and singing even more, that is always a terrible blow to me.  Still can’t sing, but am at least feeling better.  Always think how nice it would be to have a loving companion when I am sick and needing a little comfort.  But it is what it is.

I should be blogging a little bit more shortly.  Be patient. 🙂
