Another Snowy Day Before the End of the Year and I started Those Fingerless Mitts.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

More snow today.  They said between 4 to 6 inches today by the time it’s done later this evening.  I took this, this morning around 10am.  They also said frigid temps are coming in this evening.  For the next 3 days it will be -2F or so in the daytime (ambient temps, so wind chills will take it down they said to -20 to -30) and -17F ambient temps at night, so temps with wind chills around -30F and occasionally down to -40F.  BRRR, winter is here.  So I am staying toasty warm in the house.  I did remember to put “Heet” in my gas tank just in case I have to drive somewhere.

I’ve started on the Te Ara Fingerless Mitts for my friend to help use up her left over yarn from the 3 Color Cowl I knit her.  I’ve made these before here .  They were fun to knit and I think they look very classic and elegant :).  I will be playing a little bit of yarn chicken with this skein.  Weight wise, I should barely have enough, but this is a little heavier weight fingering weight and I hate cutting things so close just in case.  If it doesn’t work out I will have to frog and use one of the other colors she had left over, but this was the one she wanted them knit out of.   Crossing my fingers.

Merry Christmas 2017

christbirth

From the Book of Mormon on Christmas Eve day

“And it came to pass that he cried mightily unto the Lord all that day; and behold, the voice of the Lord came unto him, saying:

Lift up your head and be of good cheer; for behold, the time is at hand, and on this night shall the sign be given, and on the morrow come I into the world, to show unto the world that I will fulfill all that which I have caused to be spoken by the  mouth of my holy prophets” 3 Nephi 1:12-13

May you all have a blessed and wonderful Christmas, and may the peace of this season be with you through out the New Year.

Christmas Eve Snow

2nd Snow 2017-2018

This is what I woke up to this morning, the weather man was right :).  It ended up about 1/2 inch by the time I got home from Church.  Might be some more snow tomorrow.  So we do have a white Christmas this year :).

My Christmas Knitting Done :)

Basia Hat

My last knitted gift for Christmas, YEA!!  This pattern is call Basia and is a really interesting and easy knit.  Just enough texture to keep your attention but an easy texture to memorize :).  I kettle dyed this with an acid dye and it is a deeper blue than my picture shows, I’m not much of a photographer.  This is my 2nd Basia hat (made one as a Christmas gift last year) and I knit this with the same sport/dk weight yarn I had processed at the mill from the Polypay fleece I was given.  I have only one more skein of the yarn left out of 11.  I do have two more fleeces in the trunk of my car, but haven’t had the extra money to have them processed into roving or yarn.  If my car would stop being a money pit I could send them off to process :P.

1st Snow 2017-2018 This was the first snow of our 2017-2018 winter.  This was a week & 1/2 ago or so.  I should have put it up before, but…  It wasn’t much, just a dusting, and it has since melted.  We are suppose to get some snow tomorrow morning and Monday, so just in time for Christmas, tho it isn’t suppose to be much, maybe a 1/4 to 1/2 inch.  This, so far, is a very low moisture winter for us, and I won’t complain about the warmer weather, much better than -40, tho I think Jan will bring much colder temps than  we have been having.

3 Color Cowl Done!

This was an interesting knit.  Each band had different stitches, some lace and some texture and some color changes and ribbing.  My friend loved it and that is all that really matters :).  I need to get some blockers, pins leave little “juts” in the fabric.  I’ve seen several different kinds.  I’ll have to check them out.  But for now on to a different project :).

Progress on the 3 Color Cashmere Cowl

3 Color Cashmere Cowl Progress

I finally figured out how to rotate it :).  You will notice there is a different yarn.  I felt the need to have her return the darker teal color, in the previous picture, because it was a cotton/bamboo yarn and the rest of the yarns are wool.  I will need to block this cowl and the cotton yarn really wouldn’t stretch to block well.  But this new yarn is lovely to work with.  It is a 3 Irish Girls fingering wt merino/nylon yarn purchased from Stitch Together Studio.  I have put more about this yarn on my Ravelry project page (you might need a Ravelry acct to log in to see it, it is a free acct to make) :).

I should have a finished project picture to post by the weekend, as it is my intention to have this finished and blocked by Saturday :).

Vetern’s Day 2017

Veteran's Day

For our Military, who have given service and sacrificed for our freedom!

I would like to take a moment to thank all those veterans who fought in the various wars and “police actions” for our freedom.   Thank you for your service, and thank you to your families for allowing you to do that.

3-Color Cashmere Cowl

I am still working on Hermione’s Everyday socks.  I have finished the leg on one sock and am getting ready to start the leg on the 2nd sock, however I have started working on the 3-Color Cashmere Cowl, shown above,  for a friend, tho it is not being knit in cashmere.  It is a nice diversion.  The yarns she purchased for it are from Stitch Together, a local yarn shop.  More info on the yarns can be found in greater detail on  my project page for this cowl on Ravelry. 😉  You may need to sign into Ravelry to view the project page.

I will post a picture of Hermione’s Everyday socks when I get the 2nd leg finished before I do the heel flap.  The color (tho beautiful) on the socks doesn’t show the pattern very well, I think I chose a color too dark for a delicate pattern.

Hermione’s Everyday Socks Started!

I did get started on the Hermione’s Everyday Socks :).  This is my 3rd pair of socks and  I am knitting them two at a time, so I have the cuffs done for both and will be working on the legs for each now, that way I’m less likely to have 2nd sock syndrome (where you finish one sock and put off indefinitely doing the 2nd one :P, tho I haven’t had that problem.)   I keep telling myself these are for me but I might save them as a gift for Christmas, who knows :).  My enjoyment is really in the knitting :). I am a process knitter, I just love the process of knitting, it is my stress relief.  I’m always thinking about what I should start next before I’m done so I have something else to start when the piece I’m working on is finished but I don’t like to start things before I’m done with what I’m working, tho I have been known to do that occasionally.  Most knitters have a lot of things started, but I don’t usually have more than 2 or sometimes 3 things started (and usually only because I have to have something done on a time line)  It stresses me out to have too many things on my needles.  Are you a process or production knitter?
