Warning for Those Who Might Be Easily Offended – My Thoughts on My Blog

I stand for my Flag and the National Anthem

I was raised by an Air Force father who served for 21 years, and served in two wars.  I love my country, it’s flag and the National Anthem.

I’m disappointed, in those in football, who chose to protest the American Flag and our National Anthem on the football field.  The very country who has given them the opportunity to become millionaires.  Take the protest to the political arena where it might actually do some good, you are turning people against what you claim you are supporting, protesting your country doesn’t belong in a game.

Many Americans buy tickets and other football memorabilia to support their teams, however you will probably notice that attendance is down because it is NOT what most of your fans came for.  They came to watch you perform at football not to dis their country.  If they wanted political banter they would go to something political.   They attend to get away from reality for a short while because our country has become so politically correct, tumultuous and divided, it was one thing where the fans of a football team could come together on, their team.   The football arena has chosen to become political which makes them divisive and I have chosen to turn the channel now on something else besides football until they can get back to what they do best, entertaining us without their political agenda.

Seems my team, the Cowboys, can’t decide if they want to support those who are dissing their flag and anthem or stand for the flag and anthem so they did both, a right down the middle stance.  What was it Mr Miyagi in Karate Kid said? Oh yeah, “Walk on road,  Walk left side, safe. Walk right side, safe. Walk middle, sooner or later, get squish just like grape.”   Support them off the field guys, off the field your time is your own and can do what you want and I will support your right to do it, however when you are on the field, just play ball, please, we all need some down time to just enjoy the sport.

Has It Really Been Over a Month?

Wow, didn’t realize it has been so long since I’ve posted.  I’ve got my first cold of the season, ugh.  So yeah, I’ve been sick for starting on 3 weeks now.  I hate colds, but they seem to love me, if I was magic I would zing them out of existence! 😛  I haven’t even felt like knitting so no progress there.  I think I will work on some spinning today to see if I can finish one spool of singles and start on the other spool so I can ply and have something to knit with.  I’ll post a picture when I get it plied :).  Money has been very tight and I didn’t get to send my fleece off to have it processed into yarn to knit for Christmas this year.  Dang car, but I figure when I get everything fixed, it will be like a new car :P.  It’s not like I don’t have any fiber to spin, and I do enjoy spinning, sometimes I’m just in a hurry to knit. 🙂

The Cowboys did fairly well with their preseason games, their first real game is tonight with the Giants.  Hope they do well :), Go Cowboys.

I am keeping my eye on a program that is going to start in Oct.  It’s called Extinct, I’ve added a link, it looks really good!!!  It will either be on the BYU channel with your cable provider or at their website.  There are also a couple of other syfy programs coming up this fall, one is a comedy kinda like Star Trek, the other I believe is a new Star Trek program.  Not sure what channels they will be carried on but I want to check them out when they start :).

UGH Happy Late Father’s Day

My Dad

I’m sorry Dad!!  So much going on lately, I got that card out to you on time, but didn’t get this on my blog.  I have a wonderful Dad, who has always been there, has always provided for his family and was always there in the middle of the night when we were sick, holding us as we threw up on him (what a great dad it takes to do that :P.)  Love you Dad!!

May the 4th Be With You!!

May the 4th

I couldn’t resist, love it :).

I bought some knitting accessories for myself (don’t do that very often) and I will get pictures and put up soon.  Been sick with yet another cold and laryngitis again so I haven’t felt like doing much :(. Also as soon as my back is better (yes I threw it out again) I need to skirt the fleece I have and send it off to be processed into yarn.  I’ll talk more about that when it happens 😛

ROBINS!!!!

On my way home, I saw that the first of the male Robins have arrived!!!  I didn’t get to take a picture because I couldn’t stop, there were vehicles behind me :(.  I will take a picture and put it in here tomorrow. 🙂  The females will follow in about 2 weeks which means SPRING is on the way!!!!

Heat Advisory ShawlThis is how The Heat Advisory Shawl is coming along.  I have about 8 more rows before I start the lace work.  It is a very enjoyable knit 🙂   I’ll post  more when I get some on the lace work done. 🙂

*UPDATE – Ugh I have not been able to get a picture of the male Robbins, but I’ll keep trying.  I was not able to catch those beautiful robins, will try again next year – I’ll be prepared next year :P.

UGH! Daylight Savings Time Again

Old Indian Wisdom

I’m not happy that this is here again.  You’d think the government would take the hint since I keep posting about this, but I guess they just don’t listen :P.  I want my hour back, NOW!!  😛

Only good thing about this time of year is it’s SPRING!!!  Altho’ you might not know it since we are suppose to get about 6″ of snow tonight and tomorrow.   Sigh, but that is life in the mid-west!

I am working on the shawl, and am getting close to starting the lace section, I’ll try to get a picture of it in the next day or two and post it.  It’s a really nice pattern. 🙂

Bad Day Socks Done, Shawl Started and More Stash :)

Bad Day Socks I finished my socks with The Lemonade Shop yarn Bad Day.  It’s  a beautiful yarn 438 yards, 100 gms, 75/20/5 Superwash Merino/Nylon/Stelliana, and I love it.  The pattern was a personal vanilla sock pattern  from a friend from the Fiber Pusher Podcast on Ravelry.  I still need, tho, to either go down another size needle or maybe cast on 60 instead of 64 stitches, I’ll figure it out.

These socks were fun to knit but I took way to long to get them done, my fault – I had to stop to do some Christmas knitting and then finish a blanket for a friend’s son who had asked.  Unfortunately I forgot to get a picture of the blanket.  I just used the Tara Shawl pattern from Lion Brand Yarns, changing the number of cast on from 60 to 90 so that I had a shorter wider end project instead of the longer shawl shape.  It’s a very easy mindless knit that takes 3 skeins of Homespun yarn from Lion Brand Yarns.

I have started a shawl for comfort for my oldest son’s fiancee, who lost her mother Start of Heat Advisory Shawlrecently.  I chose the Heat Advisory Shawl by Maura Clement  because it looked beautiful and didn’t look like it would take a year to knit :).  This is a paid pattern.  I thought I would use the new yarn that I mentioned in my previous post, but it is a sock weight and the pattern calls for a dk weight, so I went stash diving.  Fortunately a friend from my church was preparing for a move and de-stashed her yarn to me, woot woot, I had beautiful dk weight yarn I could use :).   You can see the yarn in the picture, it is called Ardilla Bouquet and is from Spain.  It is 69% acrilic/21% wool/10% mohair  50 g, 105 m.  I have started the shawl, and it seems very easy and at this point is an enjoyable to knit.  The yarn, like most mohair, sheds and is fuzzy, but I think it will be a beautiful shawl. 🙂  I have 10 skeins of this yarn and have wound off into balls, 2 skeins to start with, I’m sure it will take about 3 or 4 skeins.

I’m comfortable at this time with just one project going.  I am not one of those knitters who have tons of projects going at the same time.  I might have 2 or 3 projects at the same time but any more than that is stressful to me.  I intend to do this shawl pattern again after finishing this project, for a gift for a little one’s teacher for the end of the year.  She has had both him and his sister and has been a wonderful teacher.  I’m sure pleasant surprises after a year of teaching little ones is nice ;).  For his sister’s teacher I’m thinking of  pretty pair fingerless mitts, those are always nice to have in our winter months :).   *UPDATE* Ran out of time and did fingerless mitts for both teachers.

We have had an absolutely gorgeous Feb this year.  Yesterday we had a record high of 67.  More like our April temps, tho we have had blizzards in April too, lol.  The temps are going back down into the 40’s today and colder than that on Friday and beyond, but I certainly enjoyed the brief warmer weather and it gave me an emotional pick me up from the drudgery of winter :).

First Snow 2016-2017

First Snow 2016-2017  This was 3 weekends ago.  Yeah I’m a little late getting this in :P.  We got about 3 1/3 inches over the weekend.  We have had snow now every weekend since, about 2 1/2 to 4 inches each weekend.  Tired of snow already, and tonight it is suppose to be -18 F ambient temp and with wind chills about -35.  Is it spring yet?

Hand Dyed Polypay

I have not finished the socks I was working on (tho I am at the heel on the second sock) but I have to get started on this other project because it is a Christmas present and time waits for no man (or woman :P).  I don’t think she reads my blogs but just in case I wont go into what it is but I dyed it to match the hat I made her last year.  I will start working on this project tomorrow.

I hope everyone is staying warm and that you are well and happy.  🙂

1st Pair of Socks Done

1st Pair of socks done

Yarn for 2nd Pair of Socks

YEA!!!  My first pair of socks is done.  There were matchy matchy until I got to the toe of the 2nd sock, they were the same length but two of the darker stripes were a bit longer on the second sock so the toes didnt get the dark tip like the other one.  That is ok tho, I’m excited to have them finished :).

A family member put dibs on them  and she was so excited to get them even tho they are to big for her lol.  But they were just my practice pair because I had no one in mind when I made them, just wanted to see what size that needle size would make.  She gave me another skein of sock yarn to make her another pair lol (see picture on the right.)  Going down a needle size this next pair, and will change to a 2×2 rib cuff which I will make 2 inches long instead of one.  This new yarn is dyed by The Lemonade Shop and the color is Bad Day, it’s sparkly and so pretty, I’m really excited to see how the colorway works up :).

My son has purchased 4 alpaca, one grey, one black, one fawn and one mahogany.  They are so pretty, guess I can see a little bit of alpaca fiber in my life to spin this next spring.  I have a light black Polypay fleece I need to skirt and get sent off to the fiber mill (my car has been a bit “me, me, me” lately so the things I  usually do earlier in the year have had to be put off for car repairs, but when I get the brakes fixed I should be able to send it off next month), then the next month I have another alpaca fleece to send off to the fiber mill.  So much fiber, so little time :).
