Monday Funny/and Sad at the Same Time.

This is funny and sad at the same time. Sad that a student (hopefully this was a part time working student and not an adult!) doesn’t know the spelling difference between meat and meet. Our education system has failed our children. I had to teach my 6th grade grandchild how to read, in 2 years this child was up to grade level, reading on their own and enjoying it. Parents and grandparents please get involved with your children/grandchildren’s education. They will thank you when they are older. sigh

  1. My son and his finance are elementary school teachers. They have said they WILL NOT send their children to public school. My stepdaughter is home schooling my granddaughter and my daughter is looking at home schooling her children. It’s sad but teachers have to spend their day dealing with students that have no respect for themselves, others, or adults. They get no support from parents that also refuse to parent. Elementary students literally get into physical fights on a daily basis. There are no consequences as schools aren’t allowed to do anything. Until society is willing to admit that separate “schools” are needed for students that refuse to follow the behavior rules so as to separate them from the kids that want to learn, schools will continue to be day care centers instead of education centers. Why teacher unions aren’t waving this flag is beyond me. Obviously teacher unions are not about supporting education.

    • We have a school like that in the larger city next to us, they have usually been involved with the juvenile system. I think they only go 1/2 day but they have to be there or they go to juvenile detention. Those teacher are allowed more leeway than the reg school allow teachers. I agree with you on teachers unions, they have been awol for many years, just collection dues. I just couldn’t stand by and let my youngest grandchild fail because of reading. English has always been my best subject and I enjoy teaching so I told my daughter to send that child over to my house with a book every day after school, and the teaching began. This child told me they were stubborn, and I looked this one in the eyes and said, and where do you think you got your stubborn streak from, and I have years of experience on you. hehe. A couple of weeks later this child gave up (because I said until we read for 30 min, they would not be able to go home). By the end of 6th grade we were making good progress and by the end of the 7th grade this child was reading books and even enjoying doing book reports. You are right tho, some parents are not holding the children to any standard (hard to discipline when you feel guilty you work too many hrs? or rather do your own thing?), makes it hard for a child to move around in society and fit in, so we get kids that want to do their own thing with no responsibility. I this this child know I them them but didn’t let this child get away with not learning. I’m thinking about going to the elementary/junior high behind me and see if they would like someone to read to or listen to a child read to me. I taught my grand child how to sound out words and break them down into smaller words and put them together, the rules for sounding out and spelling. Only way to really learn to read, only memorizing doesn’t help when you have a word you’ve never seen before and can’t figure out how it sounds so you know what the word is.
