Christmas – Light the World

Light the World

We are having our Light the World again to celebrate the Christmas season. On the page there is a Kindness Randomizer to click for an act of kindness idea to do that day, you can click it everyday for a new idea. Or you can scroll down to the 50 ways to let your light shine. Let his image shine in your countenance.

Winter is Here, We Have Snow.

This is what I woke up to this morning, as you can see it wasn’t much, the ground isn’t quite cold enough for “fluffy stuff” to really stick around very long. Winter’s here, or at least trying to get here, we are suppose to have another warm up by this weekend into the 30’s, then we get hit with another winter blast from Canada. We only got the back side of this big storm that hit everyone with lots of snow east of us. But the weatherman said don’t worry there are more storms on the way. Sigh.

Got my Christmas tree up! I got this one 2 Christmas’ ago because my very old fiber optic tree (that I bought used in 2005) finally quit and I got this new fiber optic tree, I like all the colors it turns. It’s about a foot shorter, but I like it :). It’s feeling like Christmas is coming!!! I’m listening to all the Christmas music on my favorite radio station and loving it :). I’m trying to work on some knitting, need to push through, I have stuff that needs to get done!!!! Hopefully in a week or so I will have some progress to report.

This is Wish, the last cria born on the farm this year. He’s almost 4 months old so this is his first winter. I asked Ev, my son in law, if Wish was running and playing in the snow because of the snow on his back, but he said no, he was sitting by the barn door which stays open, except in bad storms or extreme cold, watching the snow and got snowed on, lol. But as you can see it doesn’t melt on him, because of the dense fiber which insulates his body from the cold and snow. Just thought I would throw this picture in because the cria (baby alpaca) are so cute!

New Project and New Needles

I should have started these fingerless mitts earlier, but in my defense I was trying to discretely get her hand size before starting and finally decided I just needed to take my best guess and get it started, it’s for Christmas :P. These are the Na Ceithir Duil by Liz Corke on Ravelry, they are a paid for pattern. Sorry it wouldn’t let me make a link, hmmm. The last two years I’ve been working on a set with the dandelion pattern. 1st year was a turban style head band to cover the ears for walking in the fall and spring, 2nd year (last year) was a cowl, and this year are fingerless mitts. I won’t be doing the colors just white (I just needed the pattern so I didn’t have to do all the math for the pattern with how many stitches, math isn’t my thing), as the other items I knitted were all white, so it will match. I’m using a different weight and kind of yarn because this pattern is for a fingering weight yarn and so to keep her hands warmer I chose a Stroll wool blend from Knit Picks. I’m using 9″ ChiaoGoo red lace circular needles.

I have a special project planned for family Christmas gifts this year. Some kinds of knitting I don’t do because I’m not a fan, love looking at it but not knitting it, however these are smaller objects and so darn cute that I bought the pattern and bit the bullet and ordered some double pointed needles (my favorite needles are the Knitter’s Pride Karbonz because they are light weight carbon with metal tips) and I’m not a fan of the double pointed needles either (this pattern gets too small for the 9″ circulars and it’s too clumsy for my favorite Flexi Flips, I must be crazy!) I had to order the yarn (expensive) and I’ll post about the project when the yarn comes in, so until then it’s a secret :). I will be making these every year for a while as the pattern has 24 versions and everyone will get the same one in order each year, so I didn’t mind spending the money on the Karbonz (also expensive) because I didn’t have any double pointed needles in the right size (because I don’t like using them :P). Crossing my fingers this won’t be more of a chore than an enjoyment. You’ll see what I mean :P. The yarn probably won’t be in for a couple of weeks, the yarn shop had to order it.

Cooler weather is finally here, tho they are saying we will get back in to the 50’s this week into the beginning of next week, and maybe little snow next Wed and Thursday with lower 40’s and upper 30’s. Fall’s finally here in time for winter, sigh.

New Hat Tag and Christmas Designs & Peacock

Added another word to the hat tags, hope they will feel loved. These are sewn in, was afraid the pop on brads might come off in the wash.

The next picture is of some Christmas die cut stickers. They will look good on wood to make Christmas tree decoration gifts. They are from SimpleSouthernMommy on Etsy, she even sent samples of some of her other designs :).

The last picture is of my son’s young peacock trying to strut his stuff, lol. He has about 2 more years before he has all his feathers in proper and they are in full color, in the mean time he’s practicing :). My son in law said he was trying to impress the hens, they couldn’t have cared less. LOL

Merry Christmas to All – 2023

From the Book of Mormon on Christmas Eve day :).

“And it came to pass that he cried mightily unto the Lord all that day; and behold, the voice of the Lord came unto him, saying:

Lift up your head and be of good cheer; for behold, the time is at hand, and on this night shall the sign be given, and on the morrow come I into the world, to show unto the world that I will fulfill all that which I have caused to be spoken by the mouth of my holy prophets” 3 Nephi 1:12-13

May you all have a blessed and wonderful Christmas, and may the peace of this season be with you through out the New Year.

Cowl is an FO, Won a Fiber Package from a Spinner on YouTube!

First is the cowl I finished for my son’s mother-in-law for Christmas. She and I exchange gifts every year and last year I made her a headband so her ears would be warm when she went walking and I wanted the cowl to match. I used the dandelion design from the headband pattern and designed where to put it, how many stitches to make the cowl, how many stitches before starting each pattern and between so the pattern ended up right at the end and staggering them. I’m not really a math person so it always takes me a while to design where to put designs, so I don’t do them very often. I had to frog this several times until I got the count and placement right.

The bottom picture is a package from Fiber Love Diary on YouTube. She gets a spinning package from Paradise Fibers free for their Fiber of the month club to show to her followers and then she buys one to give away. I won the drawing this month from last month’s package, woo hoo!! It was a nice one. I really like the fiber that Paradise Fibers sells. For fiber there were 3 2oz bags of their new chunky multi merino blends (and the card shows all the colors that they have), 1 oz of autumnal chunky merino blend and a sample of their whitest white merino (most “white” wool tends to be a little on the creamy color scale), plus a purple bent nose darning needle, 3 harvest inspired progress keepers, a stash tea and a sticker of their ewe mascot. The fiber colors are very pretty. Lots of merino to spin and I can always use another darning needle for weaving in the ends of my knitting.

I’ve started another hat for my son in law, the one I made him is just a tad tight. I’ll post progress as I go.

My fiber optic Christmas tree quit working so I had to order a new one, I bought it used in 2005, so I can’t complain, it lasted a long time. I wasn’t sure they still made fiber optic Christmas trees but happily they do!!!

Merry Christmas 2022

8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will to men.

15 And it came to pass, the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. (St. Luke 2:8-16)

May you and your families have a very blessed Christmas Day.

A Hat Update and…..

The cabled hat is finished, I knit it from a very soft worsted weight baby alpaca yarn from my son’s farm, it was a pleasure to knit. Hope it will be loved. I almost forgot to mention this is the Utopia Cabled Hat by Smariek Knits it is a free pattern.

Just a view of my 17 year old Christmas tree and a cute new little city scene I got from my son’s mother and father in law. They are really wonderful people.

I didn’t take pictures but I spent yesterday making cherry nut bread and today making cloverleaf rolls and peppermint chocolate chip cookies for our Christmas dinner tomorrow. Hope your Christmas Day is filled with love and hope.

Below is a YouTube video of Christ’s birth. Hope you enjoy.
