Ok, I hemmed and hawed and decided to buy a set of wool combs from Bam Fiber Works . I got the double row, fine wool combs with a magnetic comb cover. LOL so glad I got those covers, these things look like weapons!!! It came with a bottom that you can clamp to a table and had a nice set up to hold the comb still while you use the other comb to comb through the fiber and align it and and clean it from short cuts and left over vm. I will be washing some of the 2nd cuts from the cria (baby alpaca) fiber I got so I can try it out. Gotta be careful using those, they can do some damage!! These combs are very nice, I will enjoy learning to use them (carefully!!)
On my Look for Happiness Blanket I have the bottom border and 20 patterns done (4 rows to a pattern). This is the medium size and I need to do about 49 total patterns before doing the top border. So almost halfway done. If it doesn’t look like yarn chicken, I might add an extra pattern or so before the doing the top border. I am almost done with the 2nd skein and I have 4 more, so I might be able to make it a little longer, I’ll see where it is when I finish the 3rd skein. I’m hoping to be further along before Tour de Fleece starts on July 5th when the Tour de France begins. We spin on our spinning wheels on the days that the bicyclists ride and have two rest days when they do. We don’t normally spin all day, just however much time we have decided to spin, I’ll probably spin 20 to 30 min a day, it ends on July 27th. Will need to buy a new Tour de Fleece tee shirt this year :).
Hope everyone is well and enjoying the summer!
Definitely be careful with the combs and Iād recommend you donāt comb when just wearing socks or bare feet. They can be lethal if dropped. One guild member rests a metal tray on her feet in case she drops them and another makes sure she is standing well away from the table so if they drop itās not on her feet. I have small combs so a little less lethal but could probably still do some damage. Youāve made me realise I have nothing planned on what Iām going to spin next month for TdF. I have fibre not yet dyed so I must do that in June so Iām ready. Good luck with your alpaca.

Great cautions!!! I will definitely do something incase I drop it while using it, don’t want to invite “Murphy” (Murphy’s law) into my home, my feet have enough bad luck already!!!

My gosh, there is so much involved in spinning!! Those combs do indeed look deadly, good thing you don’t have pets, that could be a problem š
Your blanket looks SO much better than mine! I am sure it’s the color, since it’s the same pattern! If we used the same yarn, 355 yds on skein, and the recommended needles size I can’t recall now, I used just under 4 skeins for 59 repeats, so you should have plenty to add a few rows to yours. It looks SO pretty in blue, I might just have to begin a new one in my preferred color ā¤

I used a worsted weight, Hobby Lobby’s Yarn Bee brand, Yarn ID, color Indigo (which looks like a denim color. š It only has 220 yds per skein. Their yarn is on sale 30% off every other week :).

I love the Tour de France spinning tradition. Sounds like so much fun. What a pretty blanket.

The combs do look like weapons! Did you get a chance to try them out? Can’t believe it’s Tour de Fleece season already! Looking forward to your spinning updates. š

I have, I’m still learning the best way to use them, but so far they make it really fluffy and take out most of the vm (vegetable matter), tho after I wash it it’s not fluffy anymore, so I should wash it first and then do the combs. I haven’t done much yet, I’ll finish what I have to do then run it through my drum carder to fluff it back up for spinning :). It’s a work in progress. š
I’m excited about Tour de Fleece! I bought a tee shirt for it. Had to order it from Etsy, she didn’t have any but designed one for me and it’s on its way, I’ll post a picture when I get it. It’s not super ornate but it’s nice and works for me :). If Fiber Loves Diary on YouTube designs a shirt to see on her website I will order one. Her’s are always really cute.
