Blanket FO, Hat Frogged and Hail!

I finished the Look for Happiness baby blanket for an expectant mother in my church. :). Hope she likes it. It was a very enjoyable knit, not complicated, but enough “need to pay attention to one of the rows” to keep your interest. I found it a relaxing knit. 🙂

On March 19th we had a little hail storm. I thought it was just a really heavy rain, until I saw these (2nd picture) on my balcony!!

I had the hat finished that I was working on with this skein of yarn I (that I had finished spinning for the 2023 Tour de Fleece) but was not satisfied with the hat at all!! The yarn was too thick and the needles I had gone down a couple of sizes, trying to compensate for the yarn weight, were a size or two to small and made it too dense and it was still to big and the cables didn’t show well. So I frogged it, sorry I never did get a picture of it. The yarn is a light bulky (because it’s a tweed) and the pattern called for a dk weight. I have chosen another pattern but will probably still have to adjust it, or maybe just keep looking for a better pattern.

Hope everyone is safe with all the crazy weather, take care, be safe!

Spring is Here!!!!

It’s officially Spring when I see the first Robin! Two pictures because the first one that shows his red breast was blurry :(, and the 2nd picture was just his back, but there we go!! I had to pull over on the side of the road or into a driveway to get these pictures, hehe. Fortunately there were not any cars on the road at the time. The last several years I could not catch the first Robins returning for Spring so I was so excited to get them this year!!!

Accident, Snow and Time Change

Well a deer and I had an argument over who should have right of way on the road, tho he neglected to tell me he had an issue with it as he made his point. It was a road with fields and lots of open area and it was night (on my way home from a church meeting) and this was my first experience with a deer’s right to the road. I saw a brown blur out of the corner of my left eye and thought, is that a dog, “boom” no it was a deer. From the damage it looks like he may have been trying to stop and hit me sideways. He didn’t fall over the hood or windshield so they were undamaged, I pulled over to see the damage and didn’t see the deer on the road, hope he’s ok. I felt like I had received a tender mercy from the Lord because the deer could have been in front of me and I’d have hit him head on, or hitting and damaging my door breaking my window on me, and all the damage those two places would have done. Tho’ it’s a bit pricey to fix for body work and the guy who did the estimate said it was safe to drive as it was body damage wise, and I was not injured. I took my car in to my mechanic for an oil change and had them look it over for other things that might have been damaged other than the driver’s front wheel well. They put it up on the lift and said they did not see any undercarriage damage, they didn’t see any leaks and the level of the fluids of my car were all ok. My car is 15 years old and I did not have full coverage because at it’s age they would probably just have totaled it and the money I would have received from the insurance would not replace it with a car as good, as it only has 50K miles on it. So I’ll pay the little over 3K to have it fixed and be glad I still have a good and safe car, but I will be on the look out for those dang deer!

We did have snow last Wed (about 2 inches) and snow yesterday (about 1 inch). But I forgot to load them in my pictures so no pictures of that today. But we are supposed to be in the 60’s this next week before it gets cold again!!!

Ok just a little vent about the time change. From the picture I’m sure you know where I stand. I know people are excited for that extra hour of light right now, but there are consequences when we change things that the Lord set up when he created the world and time. Changing time back and forth is harder on you as you get older and the studies show that older people tend to have more heart attacks when this happens every year. Also now children will be walking to school when it’s dark, just before light. Yes there are children who live a mile or two away from school (1 mile for elementary and 2 miles for high school) who’s parents work and can’t drive them and they have to walk to school. Again I know some people are very excited for an extra hour of daylight in the early spring because (especially in the midwest and places north) it gets dark in the winter around Christmas around 5pm but now in March it’s 6:20 so see it’s already getting lighter after work. So just be patient for a few months and let the light get here normally and naturally so others will be safe. The federal government probably won’t change it, even tho they changed it to begin with. So I will contact my state congress to put a bug in their ear to change it fully back to standard time for my state anyway.

Fiber Festival 2025

These first pictures are my son’s fiber stand, the 1st picture is most of it. The 2nd one is some printed alpaca coins (so cute!) on the part of the table that doesn’t show. The 3rd picture is a very large toy alpaca with alpaca fur that he uses as his mascot on his table so people will know he sells alpaca yarn (people love to pet it), you can see 3 alpaca rugs behind it. The last picture is a close up of the printed yarn bowls (cat, puppy and alpaca) he makes along with some of his alpaca fur stuffed animals and some dryer balls, the Chicken is in my Monday funny :P. And oh, the little round things hanging on the side of the yarn bin, are bird nesting balls. He puts his less useable alpaca fiber to stuff in them for the birds to use for their nests, not much gets wasted!! Hopefully clicking on the pictures will enlarge them.

This group is some of the pictures from the Fiber Festival of different vendors. The first one is my favorite goat’s milk soap and lotion maker, love her stuff!! There was so much yarn!! The 3rd picture is some wool needle felted pictures. I thought the Child’s sweater with the sheep was so cute. The 5th picture is of some beautiful batts made from Haunui Wool that comes from New Zealand, and oh my it’s so soft. I think he said New Zealand was the only place you could get that wool. I was going to buy the black batts with some colorful sari silk blended in at the top of the middle bin, but I waited too long and it was gone when I went to buy it. I will have to order it. The 6th picture was a friendly vendor who posed for a picture for me :). The next two pictures are a hand made and designed quilt from one of the 2 Guys Yarn Company and their card because the beautiful quilt deserved to have the creator known.

I did buy from 2 vendors, I didn’t get a picture loaded but I bought 2 lotions from the Lily’s soap and lotion vendor – two lotions, an almond & cherry fragrance and a lavender fragrance. Both are so good. The 1st picture above is of a miniature blending board that was so dang cute I couldn’t resist it, and the 2nd picture shows my attempt to make a mini batt and the rolag is in the 1st picture, LOL. Now I just need a little miniature spinning wheel to put in my craft room on the craft dresser with the miniature blending board. The business card is the vendor I bought this from and the creator is on the bag it came in. Those tines are sharp, I poked my thumb!!! The little brush looking thing is called a burnisher, it is used to comb the fiber deeper into the tines on the board and the two rods are used to roll the fiber up into a rolag. Would look so cute in a shadow box!!

We got a lot of rain today, heavy at times, and tomorrow (Wed) the rain turns into snow about 6am and snows until early afternoon. The weatherman said lots of straight line winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts over 60 later tonight and into tomorrow. Guess it can’t make up it’s mind. Feels like winter is fighting with spring for possession of the weather.

Hope everyone is fairing well. Be safe if you are in the way of this storm.

Monday Funny!!

With the egg dilemma, the chicken just said, “That’s a lot of Egg-spectations on me!”

This is one of my son’s alpaca fur lined stuffed animal toy chicken, that he sells in his store (more pictures will be forth coming on Tuesday of the fiber fair). He made a funny about it and I thought it was very clever so there it is 😛
